About us

Shady Gardens Nursery is a native plant nursery specializing in American native plants. Native Azaleas, Itea, Sweet Shrub, Wildflowers, and many rare non-native plants and bulbs: Fragrant Winter Daphne Odora, Hellebore, Rohdea, Arum, Voodoo Lily, unusual Oxalis varieties, and Trillium.

Specializing in rare American Native Plants like Native Azaleas and Bigleaf Magnolias, we also have old-fashioned pass-along plants and shrubs, antique and carefree rose varieties that really don't need spraying, and rare plants like Fragrant Winter Daphne odora, Rohdea and Hellebores at reasonable prices!

Wildflowers and Native Plants are never collected from the wild, but are nursery propagated by me or some of our friends!

After 20 years of gardening in our own backyard while growing increasingly fond of native plants in particular, we decided to open Shady Gardens Nursery. Beginning with weekend plant sales advertised only by poster signs like a yard sale, we soon realized the increasing demand for native plants.

Shady Gardens Nursery is a family business located just outside LaGrange, Georgia. We are no longer open to the public, but we ship our plants directly from our nursery to you. We consider our customers to be our friends. When you shop with us, you'll be treated like the important person you are. Customer Service is our top priority.

We provide plants in larger sizes than most mail-order nurseries--trees and shrubs are gallon plants, except where noted.  Plants are often pruned prior to shipment to help with packaging and transplant success. Plants we ship are usually more mature than what can be purchased from other mail order sources. Contact us any time by email: sharon@shadygardensnursery.com. We welcome any questions about our plants or our nursery, and we look forward to serving your gardening needs.

As our country's weather patterns change, bringing hotter, drier conditions, we can continue to enjoy a beautiful garden if we make wise plant choices. That means 'Plant native plants!'  What I mean is, native plants have endured whatever nature dishes out, and many of our native plants not only tolerate but thrive under adverse growing conditions.

In a family-run business like ours, success depends on each family member taking an active role. Everyone works hard, and we'd like you to meet some of our most valuable staff members:
